C'era una volta la squadra di basket della scuola media Teikou che era riuscita a vincere contro ogni squadra rivale. I cinque giocatori di questa squadra vennero chiamati la "Generazione dei Miracoli". Dopo essersi diplomati, queste cinque stelle andarono in cinque diverse scuole superiori, entrando a far parte delle rispettive squadre di basket. Tuttavia, un fatto di cui pochi sono a conoscenza è che esisteva un altro giocatore della "Generazione dei Miracoli", il sesto giocatore fantasma. Questo giocatore misterioso oggi è una matricola al Liceo Seirin, una nuova scuola con una potente squadra, anche se poco conosciuta. Ora Tetsuya Kuroko, il sesto membro della "Generazione dei Miracoli" e Taiga Kagami, un giocatore dal talento naturale che ha trascorso gran parte della scuola media in America, si pongono come obiettivo di portare la squadre del Seirin ai nazionali, anche se ciò significherà affrontare i membri della "Generazione dei Miracoli".
